FortisBC’s LNG Burn and Learn!

  • Comox Fire Rescue 1870 Noel Ave Comox, BC, V9M 2K9 Canada (map)

You’re Invited to FortisBC’s LNG Burn and Learn!

 WHY WE ARE DOING THIS

As LNG becomes a more popular fuel source with our local ferry operators, it is important that information relating to hazard identification, incident mitigation and incident response is understood by first responders who may be required to attend incidents involving LNG.

While many fire departments are familiar with fuels such as gasoline and diesel, natural gas - and in particular LNG - are not always well understood.

WHAT YOU WILL LEARN

At the end of each session, participants will be able to:

  • describe the properties of LNG and how it compares to pipeline quality natural gas

  • identify potential consequences that can occur along with mitigation strategies

  • demonstrate the effects of dry chemical fire extinguishers on LNG and natural gas fires

  • develop sound strategies for dealing with LNG-related incidents

  • understand the pros and cons of using water on an LNG release

WHO SHOULD ATTEND

Fire fighters along FortisBC’s LNG transportation corridors will benefit most from this session.
